James Campaigned on “Marriage Being Between One Woman and One Man”

Failed Senate candidate John James campaigned against marriage equality during his last unsuccessful run in 2018. In a newly revealed video, James told supporters that he believes in “marriage being between one woman and one man.” James has also repeatedly promised to confirm far-right conservative judges who would pose a major threat to hard fought LGBTQ+ rights victories in recent years. He even refused to support legal protections against discrimination for the LGBTQ+ community.

James: “I talk about being pro-family — marriage being between one woman and one man, raising folks up the way they should go because when they get old, they won’t depart from those ways.”

James has also accepted donations from some of the nation’s most prominent opponents of LGBTQ+ rights like the Family Research Council and billionaire GOP megadonor Dick Uihlein. Uihlein has already spent nearly $1 million this cycle on ads benefitting James’ campaign.

The Michigan Democratic Party launched JohnJamesRevealed.com to hold the failed U.S. Senate candidate accountable for his positions – including those made over the course of the 2018 campaign that he then tried to delete after losing that campaign. Since announcing he’d run again, just over six months after his last failed bid, James has been hiding from Michigan voters and refusing to answer questions from Michigan media.
