John James Revealed: Ahead of James’ CPAC Address, a Look Back at His 2018 Speech

James Touted Support for “Getting” “Tax Reform and Health Care” in Speech During 2018 Failed Senate Run

Speech Comes on James’ 267th Day Since Last Michigan TV Interview and 72nd Day Since Last Public Event in Michigan
As failed Senate candidate John James prepares to speak tomorrow at DC’s annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), billed as the world’s largest gathering of conservatives, the Michigan Democratic Party is reminding voters of James’ last speech to the convention, in which he voiced “support [for] our president’s agenda,” specifically the GOP Tax Scam and attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act and take away protections for pre-existing conditions.

“I support our president’s agenda because actions speak louder than words… going at tax reform and healthcare and getting one of ‘em”

— John James, CPAC 2018

James has called the tax giveaway to billionaires and giant corporations that gutted a key provision of the ACA and blew a hole in the federal budget while leaving working Americans to foot the bill a “big beautiful Trump economic rocket ship” and a “massive Christmas present.” In a now-deleted video, James called the ACA “a monstrosity” despite the law securing protections for 1.7 million Michiganders with a pre-existing condition. Since Republicans have “vow[ed] to try again” to repeal the health care law in 2020, Michiganders can bet that James would serve as a rubber stamp for Washington party leaders’ agenda to give tax breaks to corporations and raise health care costs and rip away protections from millions of Michiganders and Americans with pre-existing health conditions.

“After skipping Vice President Pence’s visit to fundraise in San Diego earlier this week, John James is now set to speak at a glitzy gathering of influential conservatives at a DC-area resort instead of facing Michiganders,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Elena Kuhn. “It’s clear that James is only comfortable talking to supporters and donors because he knows everyday Michiganders don’t agree with his rigid views and ‘2,000%’ support for Trump’s agenda to gut their health care and retirement benefits to pay for his massive tax giveaway to corporations and the ultra-wealthy.”

The Michigan Democratic Party launched to hold the failed U.S. Senate candidate accountable for his positions – including those made over the course of the 2018 campaign that he then tried to delete after losing that campaign. Since announcing he’d run again, just over six months after his last failed bid, James has been hiding from Michigan voters and refusing to answer questions from Michigan media.
