John James Revealed: As Senate Passes Conservation Funding, James Has Shown He’d Be A Threat to Great Lakes, Clean Water Protections

The Senate just passed the Great American Outdoors Act to fund our national parks, public lands and the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). But when it comes to protecting the Great Lakes state’s natural wonders, failed politician John James has proven he’d side with special interests and far-right groups, not Michigan.

James is endorsed by the Koch-founded FreedomWorks, who has opposed the reauthorization of the LWCF, which provides millions in funding for water and air conservation projects in Michigan. The far-right group also supports an agenda of “rolling back environmental regulations” and has opposed a budget that restored funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GRLI) after the White House tried to cut it

James continues to be “all for” the Trump agenda by refusing to stand up to the Administration’s policies that hurt the Great Lakes, even as Trump  opposed new PFAS cleanup standards.

“John James’ record makes clear he’d be a reliable vote against protecting our Great Lakes and the environment even when it threatens funding for Michigan,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Elena Kuhn. “James’ anti-environment endorsement and ‘2,000’ percent support for Trump confirms that he’d be in the pocket of far-right outside groups and can’t be trusted to be an independent voice from Michigan.”

The Michigan Democratic Party launched to hold the failed U.S. Senate candidate accountable for his positions – including those made over the course of the 2018 campaign that he then tried to delete after losing that campaign. Since announcing he’d run again, just over six months after his last failed bid, James has been hiding from Michigan voters and refusing to answer questions from Michigan media.
