At DC’s annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), President Trump repeated what independent fact checkers have determined is a “Pants on Fire” lie that Republicans will protect the health care coverage for those with pre-existing conditions:
“We will always protect patients with pre-existing conditions. Health care is a big, big part of what we’re doing.” — Donald Trump, 2/29/20
Politifact reviewed how Trump has aggressively tried to use every branch of government with the support of Republicans like failed U.S. Senate candidate John James, to overturn the law that protects pre-existing conditions coverage for the 1.7 million Michiganders who have a pre-existing condition.
James has previously echoed Trump’s health care lies in an effort to erase his positions on health care, and in his own CPAC speech James made clear he still stands with Trump “2,000” percent, saying “President Trump dares us to be great” and “we’re most definitely not done.”
“John James has been hiding from Michiganders for nearly 300 days but found time to join Republican insiders and make clear once again he’ll follow their lead instead of putting Michigan first,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Elena Kuhn. “Instead of spending time at out of state fundraisers and glitzy conferences with elite party leaders, James should face Michiganders and explain why he supports gutting health care protections for Michanganders with pre-existing conditions.”
The Michigan Democratic Party launched JohnJamesRevealed.com to hold the failed U.S. Senate candidate accountable for his positions – including those made over the course of the 2018 campaign that he then tried to delete after losing that campaign. Since announcing he’d run again, just over six months after his last failed bid, James has been hiding from Michigan voters and refusing to answer questions from Michigan media.
