John James Revealed: Does Trump’s Proposed Cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security Have James’ “2,000%” Support?

President Trump again broke his promise to Michigan seniors and families with a 2021 budget blueprint that slashes funding for Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security – all while driving up the national debt by extending tax cuts for billionaires and corporations. Failed U.S. Senate candidate John James owes Michiganders an answer: given his pledge to support Trump “2,000%” does he support these cuts?

“As failed Senate candidate John James enters his 250th day hiding from local TV and print media, Michiganders deserve to know exactly where he stands on Trump’s budget that slashes funding which seniors, hard-working families and our state’s most vulnerable rely on,” said MDP spokesperson Elena Kuhn. “If John James stands with Trump ‘2,000%,’ he must be honest on whether he would sell out Michigan families by supporting a budget that guts critical programs, and his support for repealing the Affordable Care Act which puts coverage for those with pre-existing conditions at risk.”

John James has previously said he supports President Trump “2,000%,” including supporting a Republican tax law that the AARP said “would likely increase taxes” for many seniors, and was initially set to trigger a $25 billion cut to Medicare.

The Michigan Democratic Party launched to hold the failed U.S. Senate candidate accountable for his positions – including those made over the course of the 2018 campaign that he then tried to delete after losing that campaign. Since announcing he’d run again, just over six months after his last failed bid, James has been hiding from Michigan voters and refusing to answer questions from Michigan media.
