James Refused to Support Exceptions for Saving A Mother’s Life; Said Overturning Roe v. Wade “Would be Okay”
Failed Senate candidate John James has received the endorsement, and thousands of dollars, from the rigid anti-choice group Family Research Council PAC, shining a spotlight on his uncompromising views on women’s health care. James has refused to support exceptions for saving a mother’s life, said overturning Roe v. Wade “would be ok with me” and accepted thousands of dollars from organizations like the Susan B. Anthony List that seek to overturn Roe v. Wade.
James has even gone as far as to call abortion “genocide” and pledged to oppose any judicial nominee who didn’t “openly call for abortion to be outlawed” even in cases of rape and incest. The Detroit Free Press reported that if Roe v. Wade were overturned right now, Michigan would revert to a 1931 law that made performing an abortion a felony in almost all circumstances.
“John James’ latest endorsements by anti-choice groups and refusal to support any exceptions for abortion highlight his rigid positions on women’s health. James’ views are out of step with Michiganders, which is probably why he’s spent over 260 days hiding from the Michigan press corps and voters,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Elena Kuhn.
The Michigan Democratic Party launched JohnJamesRevealed.com to hold the failed U.S. Senate candidate accountable for his positions – including those made over the course of the 2018 campaign that he then tried to delete after losing that campaign. Since announcing he’d run again, just over six months after his last failed bid, James has been hiding from Michigan voters and refusing to answer questions from Michigan media.
