John James Revealed: John James Hiding On Protecting Health Care As He Accepts Support From Far-Right Group That Wants to Repeal ACA

John James’ Endorsement by Senate Conservative Fund Raises Concerns on Whether He’d Protect Michiganders’ Health Care

James has said the law that protects 1.7 million Michiganders with pre-existing conditions is a “monstrosity

As John James has been hiding from Michiganders, he’s made time for the Senate Conservative Fund, the far right group known for their “hard-line strategy” in pushing Republicans to repeal the health care law. A newly revealed photo and emails to supporters show SCF’s president touting their support for him. The group has stated that they only support candidates, including John James, who are dedicated to “supporting full repeal” of the law that protects pre-existing conditions coverage – which experts say is “particularly concerning during a public health emergency.”

John James has shown he agrees with the group’s positions, saying in a now-erased video, that the law that protects Michiganders with pre-existing conditions is “monstrosity” and that we need “someone who will go and work their tail off” to remove it.

James has also shown his support for rolling back Medicare by supporting the GOP tax bill, which he called a “big beautiful Trump economic rocket ship,” even as it was initially set to trigger a $25 billion cut to the program which helps Michigan’s seniors and most vulnerable. And he’s continued to stand by President Trump and support him “2,000%” even as his budgets propose cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, as well as supports a GOP-led lawsuit headed to the Supreme Court which would gut protections for pre-existing conditions.

“John James’ record and endorsements have made clear he’d support policies that roll back coverage protections for pre-existing conditions which hurt Michigan’s working families,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Elena Kuhn. “Instead of continuing to hide, James should tell Michiganders why he supports gutting the health care coverage that families in our state rely on.”

The Michigan Democratic Party launched to hold the failed U.S. Senate candidate accountable for his positions – including those made over the course of the 2018 campaign that he then tried to delete after losing that campaign. Since announcing he’d run again, just over six months after his last failed bid, James has been hiding from Michigan voters and refusing to answer questions from Michigan media.
