John James Revealed: John James Refuses to Protect Health Care As Unemployment is “4 Times Higher” Than Before Coronavirus

Nearly 17,000 workers filed for unemployment last week, as Michiganders face unemployment rates which are “4 times higher” than before the coronavirus pandemic. But failed politician John James still won’t break with Trump to protect health care at a time when so many Michiganders are struggling to make ends meet.

James has refused to oppose the Trump and Republican-led lawsuit to repeal the health care law that protects 1.7 million Michiganders with pre-existing conditions. And he’s said in his own words the Affordable Care Act is a “monstrosity” and promised to “work [his] tail off” to remove it – even as he has no plan to protect people with pre-existing conditions.

That’s not all: James also has refused to oppose Trump’s plan to eliminate the payroll tax that could deplete the Social Security retirement trust fund by 2023 – further jeopardizing the economic security of Michiganders.

“John James continues to prove he’d rather side with Trump and Washington Republicans than stand up for Michiganders’ health care and Social Security even as they face a public health crisis and recession,” said Michigan Democratic spokesperson Elena Kuhn. “Michiganders just can’t trust James to protect their health care and protect coverage for pre-existing conditions.”

The Michigan Democratic Party launched to hold the failed U.S. Senate candidate accountable for his positions – including those made over the course of the 2018 campaign that he then tried to delete after losing that campaign. For the first year of his campaign, James was largely in hiding from Michigan press and voters to try to paper over his out-of-touch record, and has only come out of hiding after facing scrutiny from Michiganders.
