In case you missed it, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos is taking away coronavirus relief funds intended for public schools – a move that will reduce funding for Michigan public school students by at least $16 million.
Yet, failed politician John James is in lockstep with DeVos even as it hurts students, refusing to speak out against this latest attack on public education. James says she’s done a “very, very good” job at the Department of Education and has made clear he’s “all for” the Trump agenda, which includes threats to cut public education funding if schools don’t reopen.
The DeVos family and their top executives have worked overtime to support James by funnelling nearly a million dollars into the Michigan Senate race to prop him up, making him one of their favorite candidates this cycle.
“The DeVos family is pumping nearly a million dollars into supporting John James because they know he’d be a reliable vote for Betsy DeVos’ disastrous anti-public education agenda that hurts our students,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Elena Kuhn. “James continues to show he’d side with Betsy DeVos even when Michigan public schools pay the price.”
The Michigan Democratic Party launched JohnJamesRevealed.com to hold the failed U.S. Senate candidate accountable for his positions – including those made over the course of the 2018 campaign that he then tried to delete after losing that campaign. For the first year of his campaign, James was largely in hiding from Michigan press and voters to try to paper over his out-of-touch record, and has only come out of hiding after facing scrutiny from Michiganders.
