John James Revealed: McConnell’s Dark Money Group Pumps In Millions to Prop Up John James After He Signals for Help

Washington Post: “Republican candidate John James… just hasn’t been able to gain traction”

After months of underwhelming polls, failed politician John James released a cry for help – and now James’ Washington allies are pumping in millions to prop up his flailing campaign through a dark money group with ties to Mitch McConnell and Karl Rove.

But McConnell swooping in to prop up James’ campaign by spreading misleading attacks can’t change James’ toxic record of standing with Washington Republicans and special interests over Michigan. James still won’t break from McConnell as he blocks expanded unemployment relief and sent the Senate home even though Republicans failed to negotiate a bipartisan relief package to help the millions of Americans who are out of work.

“John James is Mitch McConnell’s handpicked candidate, so it’s no wonder he’s funneling in millions to boost James after his campaign has failed to take off. James continues to demonstrate he’s in the pocket of special interests and not an independent voice for Michigan working families – he’ll be a reliable vote against protections for pre-existing conditions coverage, against Great Lakes funding and for Betsy DeVos’ anti-public education agenda,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Elena Kuhn.

The Michigan Democratic Party launched to hold the failed U.S. Senate candidate accountable for his positions – including those made over the course of the 2018 campaign that he then tried to delete after losing that campaign. For the first year of his campaign, James was largely in hiding from Michigan press and voters to try to paper over his out-of-touch record, and has only come out of hiding after facing scrutiny from Michiganders.
