John James Revealed: Michiganders Dogged with Unemployment but John James Still Won’t Break With Trump to Stand Up for Health Care

At least 2.2 million Michiganders have filed for unemployment since the spread of COVID-19, including nearly 20,000 people in the past week. But failed politician John James still won’t break with Trump even as he blocks an open enrollment period that would make it easier for Michiganders who lost their job or are uninsured to get health care.

Despite James’ new “plan,” which features an empty promise to fight for health care, his record shows he’s “all for” the Trump agenda of taking away Michiganders’ health coverage. In fact, James has called the law which protects 1.7 million Michiganders with pre-existing conditions a “monstrosity” and vowed to “work [his] tail off” to remove it. He’s also failed to break with Washington Republicans as they work to repeal the Affordable Care Act in the courts amid the pandemic.

“John James is attempting to rewrite his position on health care – but as Trump makes it more difficult for Michiganders to get covered, James’ inaction speaks louder than words,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Elena Kuhn. “By refusing to stand up for health care, James is showing he cares more about his allegiance to Trump than doing what’s right for Michigan families.”

The Michigan Democratic Party launched to hold the failed U.S. Senate candidate accountable for his positions – including those made over the course of the 2018 campaign that he then tried to delete after losing that campaign. Since announcing he’d run again, just over six months after his last failed bid, James has been hiding from Michigan voters and refusing to answer questions from Michigan media.
