A new report by a nonpartisan consumer advocacy organization shows that 222,000 Michiganders are newly uninsured after being hit by the “double whammy” of losing their health care after losing their job.
Even as the percentage of Michiganders without health care has grown 46% since the pandemic hit Michigan – failed politician John James won’t break with Trump and Washington Republicans who have blocked holding a special Affordable Care Act open enrollment period to make it easier to get covered.
Instead of doing what’s right for Michigan, James has called the law which protects 1.7 million Michiganders with pre-existing conditions a “monstrosity” and promised to “work [his] tail off to remove” it. And he’s still standing by Trump on the GOP-led lawsuit to remove health care in the courts – a move which would force at least 827,000 Michiganders to lose their health care.
“John James promised to overturn the Affordable Care Act and has no plan to protect people with pre-existing conditions,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Elena Kuhn. “James continues to show he cares more about standing by Trump and Washington Republicans than fighting for affordable health care even as hundreds of thousands of Michiganders are paying the price.”
The Michigan Democratic Party launched JohnJamesRevealed.com to hold the failed U.S. Senate candidate accountable for his positions – including those made over the course of the 2018 campaign that he then tried to delete after losing that campaign. For the first year of his campaign, James was largely in hiding from Michigan press and voters to try to paper over his out-of-touch record, and has only come out of hiding after facing scrutiny from Michiganders.
