John James Revealed: On Day 2 of SCOTUS Confirmation Hearings, Reminder That James Would be a Reliable Vote for Bad for Michigan Agenda

James supports filling Supreme Court vacancy with nominee who would put Washington Republicans and special interests first and Michigan last

On the second day of Supreme Court confirmation hearings, a reminder that failed politician and failed businessman John James would be a rubber stamp for rushing through Trump’s Supreme Court pick who supports an agenda that is wrong for Michigan.

James has said in his own words his “2,000%” support for Trump is specifically for “placing textualist Supreme Court justices on the bench” – which includes a nominee who will likely gut protections for pre-existing conditions, put uncompromising and rigid restrictions on the relationship between a woman and her doctor, and side with special interests over Michigan workers.

A recent Detroit News poll shows James is wildly out of step with Michigan, as nearly 60% of Michiganders polled support the Supreme Court upholding the ACA and nearly two thirds of Michiganders polled say the Supreme Court should protect Roe v. Wade.

“John James has shown he’ll always fall in line with Trump and McConnell even when it’s wrong for Michigan,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Elena Kuhn. “With a Supreme Court vacancy, everything from protections for pre-existing conditions coverage, to reproductive health care, to workers’ rights are on the line – and James has made clear he can’t be trusted to do what’s right for Michigan.”

The Michigan Democratic Party launched to hold the failed U.S. Senate candidate accountable for his positions – including those made over the course of the 2018 campaign that he then tried to delete after losing that campaign. For the first year of his campaign, James was largely in hiding from Michigan press and voters to try to paper over his out-of-touch record, and has only come out of hiding after facing scrutiny from Michiganders.
